The Academic Seminar of the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education in Plant Protection Resources and Pest Management was held in the Conference Room 208 of our university’s Exchange Center on December 30th, 2023. Professor Wang Qingmin from Nankai University, Professors Liu Jun and Yang Xinling from China Agricultural University, and Professor Dong Suomeng from Nanjing Agricultural University were invited to give presentations. The symposium was coordinated by Professor Hu Xiaoping, Dean of our college, and Professor Guo Jun, Vice Dean of our college. More than one hundred teachers and students from the College of Plant Protection attended.
Professor Wang Qingmin from Nankai University delivered a presentation on the creation of new natural source pesticides and the development of new functional adjuvants, covering the teaching and research content of pesticides, drugs, and organic chemistry. He also made a presentation on the creation of environmentally friendly pesticides and drugs, as well as on the development of functional adjuvants.
Professor Liu Jun from the College of Plant Protection at China Agricultural University mainly studies the causes of plant diseases. He is committed to studying the molecular mechanisms of pattern recognition receptors on plant cell membranes recognizing pathogenic bacteria, and has achieved a series of important research results in the pathogenic mechanism of secreted proteins of pathogenic bacteria. He delivered a presentation titled "Plant Endoplasmic Reticulum-Mediated Immunity".
Professor Yang Xinling from China Agricultural University has long been engaged in research on the creation of new pesticides. She mainly focuses on the simulation of peptide pesticides, insect growth and behavior regulators, and fungicide molecular design and discovery. She made a special presentation titled "Exploration and Discovery of Green Peptide Pesticides".
Professor Dong Suomeng from Nanjing Agricultural University delivered a presentation on the study of the main pathogenic mechanism of Phytophthora infestans. His research is committed to promoting innovation in basic theoretical research on crop diseases to cutting-edge management technologies, including explaining the field variation of Phytophthora infestans, revealing the mechanism of Phytophthora infestans in causing disasters, exploring resistance resources in Solanaceae plants, and conducting potato disease resistance research.
The teachers and students at the meeting conducted in-depth exchanges with the four speakers. Liu Hongkai, a master student majoring in Pesticide in the 2023 class, said, "I feel very lucky to have attended the academic meeting at the end of 2023. I have been benefited a lot. After listening to the four talks, I have a better understanding that scientific research is not achieved overnight, but requires persistence. I will also strive to build a cross-disciplinary knowledge system and continuously improve my knowledge reserve and practical abilities."
